Reacting to the Deshaun Watson’s Performance in Browns Win
Cleveland Browns QB Deshaun Watson is back in the spotlight but for good reasons this time. Watson has led the Browns to a 3-1 record on the year, after beating the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football. The 27-24 was the 3rd straight game where Watson led a game winning drive. He finished the game with 24/33 for 268 yard, 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
This was a performance that Deshaun Watson needed to push the negativity off of his narrative. In the final preseason game, fans booed him because of his poor play and he reacted to it with his own criticism before eventually apologizing for his remarks. He was on the rumor mill for being cut as his announcement of being named the starter was looked at as nothing more than a justification for financing his contract. However, the Browns have seen a lot of the pros for giving him that money. Currently, he has thrown for 6 touchdowns and 1 pick on the year, in addition to being top 10 in completion percentage. So far, this obviously is his best season as a Brown but he has a lot more football to play this year, in rrgards to the regular season. Cleveland has a good team outside of Watson but he has to continue to show he is a difference maker.
Are the Chiefs Back?
The Kansas City Chiefs being 4-0 this time of year isn’t new, but it feels like a much needed refresh. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is starting to look like his old self after coming off a season-ending knee injury. He has returned throwing for 9 touchdowns and 2 picks on the year. He has a little both old and new. This past offseason, Eric Bienemy returned as the Chiefs offensive coordinator after brief hiatus around the league an in the college ranks. The new addition to this Chiefs team a fellow Super Bowl MVP, running back Kenneth Walker III. Walker came to the Chiefs also this past offseason.
Things are finally looking like the old sparkle for the Kansas City Chiefs, despite their apparent vulnerability the last couple of seasons. There seemed to be a lack of playmaking on this offense hen you factor in Chiefs wide receiver missing games for injuries and other reasons, as well as Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce facing the twilight of this career. Even in their Super bowl appearance, they got stomped by the Philadelphia Eagles, whom they beat before in the championship game. However, these changes re going to go a long way for this team. Walker brings an element of explosie, but stable element to the run game where they can get big plays but also control the clock to win games. It is something that they have lacked for the longest times, whether it was one without the other, or both.
Bryce Young Puts on Show
Carolina Panthers QB Bryce Young has been quietly redeeming his early career struggles and Sunday’ win was no different. Yong and the Panthers beat the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football 32-26. Young threw 29 of 41 for 329 yards and 2 touchdowns. It was his 3rd game out of the 4 this season where he threw for multiple touchdowns.
Bryce Young has come a long way over the past couple of seasons. The former number one overall pick stumbled in the beginning, which led to him getting benched in his 2nd year. However, that turned his career around tremendously. Under Panthers head coach Dave Canarles, he was able to take a step back and observe the game little better. The following season saw his touchdowns go up as well as his completion percentage. This performance landed him his first career playoff appearance by leading the panthers to the division title. If he continues on this path no, he may very well return back to the postseason with more favorable results.
Shoutouts/Shutouts
Shout out to the NFLPA for getting the refs right. Two NFL referees have been suspended for their conduct towards players in 2 separate incidents. Line judge Jeff Seeman was seen on camera cursing at Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride. McBride was arguing a potential missed call with Seeman, who was caught on video cursing at the player. Referee Adrian Hill was knocked down by Minnesota Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson, who was actually pushed by another player. Hill got up pointing and yelling at Wilson. ///nflVice President of Officiating Ramon George handed Seeman a 2 game suspension and 1 game for Hill.
Shut out to the Los Angeles Rams coaching staff for their antics rom the booth. Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Rams assistant coaches appeared to be engaged in a back-and-forth with some fans nearby. In a video posted to X, one coach is shown banging on the glass while a fan throw a water bottle at the window. Rams head coach Sean McVay did address the matter with the media, saying he discussed the incident with the coaches and asked them to show better behavior.
Week 5 comes just in time for a lot of teams finding their groove for an early playoff push. The Philadelphia Eagles take on the Jaguars in London as Philly looks to get back on track while Jacksonville continues to roll on. The game of the week should be on Monday Night Football when the Los Angeles Rams host the Buffalo Bills. It should be a high profile matchup between Bills QB Jos Allen and Rams QB Matthew Stafford, so expect the scoreboard to be lit up all night. But until then…I’ll holla.
