What Does Dak’s New Record Mean for His Cowboys Legacy?
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott reached a mark that set him up high in the franchise’s history books. Prescott’s 4 touchdown performance against the Washington Commanders gave him the most TD passes in Cowboys history. It’s a record that will be built upon on and puts him on a list with some of the QB’s of Cowboys past.
While that record might be his top accomplishment, it begs to question how Cowboys fans will view Dak all time? Does this record have him standing above legends such as Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach – whose jersey he wore arriving to the game – but has yet to capture a title like those two aforementioned. He’s spent 11 seasons in a Cowboys jersey, which is just as much as those two, but has not come close to the championship that holds up Aikman and Staubach’s names, as well as attached to the Dallas Cowboys “brand”. Aikamn and Staubach held the honor of building the Cowboys glory that many have come to tolerate, while Dak has had to chase that entire career. Now, even if you compare to him to his predecessor Tony Romo, who played in a similar era but also who he surpassed to take the record, this record should put him in that conversation of all time franchise great.
Weighing Dak’s numbers vs. his lack of rings is going to be a fun, updated argument about this team. It’s going to get away from the “Cowboys Going to the Super Bowl” mantra of the past 30 years to more of a legacy argument, which can factor in more than titles.
All Eyes on Ben Johnson
Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson is about to be the star of this team. Bears QB Caleb Williams suffered a hamstring injury and will be out on a week-to-week basis. This news comes a week after the Bears dropped 59 points in their Week 1 win over the Carolina Panthers. Without Williams, they might not reach that feat again, but Johnson has to make sure they stay in that win column.
Ben Johnson has been lauded for his on this Chicago Bears team and it’s time to really show the expanse of his efforts. Johnson has mainly been credited with polishing the career of Williams, transforming him from a questionable rookie QB to a true franchise leader. This was evident by Chicago’s numerous comebacks in 2025 and last week’s explosive performance. Johnson, a former offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, now has to utilize his expertise to guide backup QB Tyson Bagent. Some organization of this offense will be needed for skill position stars such as Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze and running back D’Andre Swift are in tact but will need to make sure they are still used properly in the weekly gameplan. Caleb Williams has deservedly got a lot of shine within the last year but this is Ben Johnson’s time to get in the spotlight.
Who should have ore concern: Bucs , Texans or Chargers?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’, Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans al made the playoffs last season but are all having rough starts this season. All 3 teams are winless to start the year which could bring about some concerns long term. The Bucs lost to the Cincinnati Bengals 7-33 then followed that up with a 23-19 loss to the Cleveland Browns. He Chargers lost to the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders , strangely by the same score of 26-14. The Texans lost to the Buffalo Bills 36-31 in Week 1 at home and followed it with another home loss to the Bengals 20-6. All of these teams are dealing with early struggles and have time to turn it around but who has the most worry about.
In this case, the Houston Texans should have more than enough cause for concern. It’s crazy to say this, even though this is their 3rd 0-2 start in 4 years, in which they’ve been to the playoffs each season, but there is so much more troubling going on it seems. The offense has one again found itself in turmoil with QB C.J. Stroud continuing an abysmal game turnover streak, going back into the postseason. This is happening even while Stroud’s numbers have landed him in top 3 of the league in passing yards. Defensively, that fearsome aura seems to have faded away as the defense has given up crucial. Big plays in the secondary. The main reason that the Texans have the most concern is because their immediate future is the brightest. Coming into this season, they were looked at as a serious contender with additions to their offensive line and their number one defense remaining n tact, but none of that has translated into the wins expected from this team this year. Stroud is up for a big extension after this season, but what happens if the losses continue to pile up? And if he isn’the cause of the losing will this fall at the feet of Texans head coach Demeco Ryans, who was deemed a home run hire when e became head coach, and still considered one of the best coaches out there. Still, after 4 years, this can not continue to be the same process: slow start, hot win streak, mid round playoff exit. Eventually there will be a lot more exits to happen.
Shoutouts/Shutouts
Shout out Minnesota Vikings cornerback Isiah Rodgers for his touchdown celebration honoring his son. According to Bleacher Report, Rodgers promised his son he would do the Hot Dog Dance from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse if he scored a TD. Rodgers did end up scoring a TD off of a fumble return and put his moves on display, as promised.
Bonus shout out to former NFL wide receiver Diontae Johnson who is fighting to make a comeback. Last week, Johnson posted a video describing the mental battles he is facing in attempting his comeback. He has been posting workout videos dating back to May, but nothing has come about yet. Hopefully he will land his opportunity pretty soon.
Shut out to injuries. New York Giants QB Jaxson Dirt suffered a knee injury in the team’s Monday Might Football loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Dart was hurt on the Giants’ opening srive and left the game. It was initially believed that it wasn’t as serious of a matter but further tests showed he would need surgery and could miss some time, possibly the season. Of all the injuries to happen so far this season, this has to be the toughest. The Giants were coming off a huge win in Week 1 and Dart was looking to take that next step up in his career. Hopefully he has a solid and speedy recovery.
Week 2 is done and Week 3 is going to turn things up a bit. The Los Angeles Rams will visit the Denver Broncos for Sunday Night Football. It will be the 2nd game for Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald who came out of retirement before the season. The Dallas Cowboys will host the Baltimore Ravens in Brazil in the NFL’s Rio game. Both teams are 1-1, looking to build on their early season successes. A win would go a long way for each of these teams in their rebound season. But until then…I’ll holla.
