The Kansas City Chiefs won their 2nd Super Bowl in 4 years, beating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35. It was a close game as expected between two teams who were the number one seed in their respective conference. The Eagles started things off with a QB sneak by Jalen Hurts for a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. The Chiefs responded when QB Patrick Mahomes thew a touchdown to tight end Travis Kelce to tie the game. The Eagles break the tie when Hurts made a deep throw to wide receiver A.J. Brown. But Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton returned a fumble for a touchdown to tie the game. But the Eagles came back with a rushing TD by Hurts to break the tie and a field goal at the end of the half.
In the 2nd half, things were just a little bit different. Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco capped off a drive with a goal line touchdown to start the first half. The Eagles stormed and looked to make a statement by scoring a touchdown, but the Chiefs stopped them and they left the field with a field goal, which might have sparked Kansas City. KC responds with a TD drive in which Mahomes threw a touchdown to wide receiver Kaderious Toney. After a 3 and out forced by the Chiefs, Toney created the longest punt return in Super Bowl history to set up a touchdown pass by Mahomes to wide receiver Sky Moore, which gave them a 35-27 lead. The Eagles tied the game with a QB sneak by Hurts and a 2 pt conversion. Chiefs took control of the ball and were storming towards the end zone until they faced a 3rd and 8. Mahomes threw an incomplete pass but the refs called defensive holding on one of the Eagles defenders. This set up the Chiefs to run down the clock and kick the game winning field goal.
The key to this Chiefs win wasn’t just Patrick Mahomes, but the entire Chiefs team. In the 2nd half, Chiefs found life by outscoring the Eagles 14-11 en route to taking the 35-27 lead. Had the defense not make that stop the result would have much different for the team today. But if Mahomes was unable to hit the 2 different receivers for his scores, this conversation would be nonexistent. The Eagles put up a figt for them, but not enough where their quarterback would be able to be slowed down by/ On this day, Kansas City just had too much playoff experience to be treated like a ragdoll oppenent.
