Review of Tom Brady’s Homecoming

Tom Brady returned to the place where he began his 20 year career, when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers visited the New England Patriots. This game lived up to all the emotionally-hyped storylines that the media could throw at you. Brady won the game in spite of his former head coach, Bill Belichick, trying to make his night as tough as possible. The Patriots lost the game but their rookie quarterback, Mac Jones, played a solid game in front of a national television audience, making their future look as bright as possible.

This game really represented closure for both the Patriots and Brady. They both parted ways at a time amongst rumors of a nasty break up, but somehow this game – and the moments before it – made it seem like there were no hard feelings and all parties have found their happiness. Brady is with a team contending for championships and the Pats have a young QB, who they are thrilled to have right now, especially after Sunday’s performance. Brady and Belichick will always be an iconic player-coach duo that a generation of football fans thoroughly enjoyed. If they never play each other again, I think many will not be disappointed after Sunday’s game.

The Tune Up Matches

The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs will face each other this Sunday night for an explosive matchup but this past weekend they had some tuneup games to get them ready. The Bills easily handled the Houston Texans in a 40-0 shutout while the Chiefs outdueled the Philadelphia Eagles 42-23. Both teams were equally impressive in their games which should set up for an even bigger this Sunday. What’s really going to come down to do it is which receiving group is going to have a big day. The Bills receivers – led by Stefon Diggs – are quietly a dangerous group. Against the Texans, they could not get as explosive as they wanted because of the weather but still managed to put up respectable numbers. Buffalo does have the edge in that front, but Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes can find some receivers to light things up. Last Sunday against the Eagles, he threw for 5 touchdowns, with 3 of them going to wide receiver Tyreek Hill but the other 2 going to running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and tight end Joe Fortson. That is going to be key for Kansas City, as they go up against Buffalo defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier who has had some success against some powerful offenses. Buffalo is coming off a game where they shut out  a team by 40 points, so they should definitely be feeling confident when they see Kansas City Sunday Night.

The Jaguars Should Move On Now

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer might be gone by the time this article drops. He was popped up in the news after being caught on camera dancing with some college girl over the weekend, but things were already bad before that. The Jaguars are 0-4 to start the season and every other week reports keep surfacing of the players not respecting their coach at all.

It’s rare that people all for the head of a coach in their first year, but this might be the exception. The Jaguars are trying to rebuild and it’s not getting off to a great start right now. They lost rookie running back Travis Etienne for the season, somebody they hoped would’ve helped rookie QB Trevor Lawrence – both teammates at Clemson – as he pushed through the first year of trying to be the franchise quarterback. In addition to that, the team had to deal with the publicity of the failed Tim Tebow Tight End experiment, with Tebow being a former player of Meyer from their University of Florida days. While those situations normally would not warrant a head coach to lose their job, but ironically, the USC Trojans football head coaching position became vacant, and the entire football world has been begging Meyer to there. There’s no reason that they shouldn’t because fans love it when the big name coaches go to these powerhouses and make things happen but that is another story for another day. However, Jaguars should just cut their ties now and make all parties happy. Meyer gets to bring a title to a storied school while Jacksonville gets to find a coach who will give a damn about them from Day 1.

Shoutouts/Shutouts

Shout out to former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch. Tuesday, Lynch was named as the NFL Player Asssociation’s first ever Chief Brand Ambassador. According to Adam Schefter, Lynch will help the development of past, present and future players on and off the field. It seems Lynch will be giving insight for players on enhancing their brand, which will be vital for older players and those that who have retired. The younger players kind of have a stronger grasp on the idea of branding but the elder statesmen of the game might need some direction when it comes to embracing digital platforms.

Shut out to the Houston Texans who got shut out by the Buffalo Bills 40-0. While both teams

Experienced mishaps because of the weather, the Texans played like they were in a torrential downpour. It certainly gave the Bills confidence heading into their Sunday Night Football game with the Chiefs.

Week 5 is here, and the slugfests might be plenty this weekend. The Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Chargers are going to collide in a battle of identities. The Browns rely on the run game to get them going while the Chargers love putting things through the air. It’s going to be interesting which team takes control of the game with their philosophy. As mentioned throughout, the game of the week will be the Buffalo Bills visiting the Kansas City Chiefs. This game could have an early effect on the playoff picture at the end of the year. Each team has the potential to be a number one seed and a loss for either could squash those dreams. But until then…I’ll holla.
