Texans Trade for Cooks to Replenish Receiving Group

Houston Texans continue to replenish their wide receiving group in the wake of the DeAndre Hopkins trade. Thursday, the team traded for wide receiver Brandin Cooks for the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a 2020 2nd round pick and a 2022 4th rounder. The move appears to be a fresh start for all involved, including Cooks.

Brandin Cooks was once a stud wide receiver; but he has quickly found himself as an NFL journeyman going to his 4th team in 7 years. Cooks began his career with the New Orleans Saints but was traded to the New England Patriots for 4TH round pick; the Patriots sent him to the Los Angeles Rams for a first round pick after one season. He seemed to have been gaining his footing with the Rams, securing 80 catches for a career high 1,204 yards. But in his 2nd season with L.A., he took a dip in production and was even sidelined for 2 games due to injuries.

However, with the Texans he can probably make a triumphant comeback for his career. Houston recently traded away star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals and have been looking to fill that void. Cooks could be stepping in as a presumed number one receiver, but he will be joining a receiving group that features Kenny Stills, Will Fuller and the recently-signed Randall Cobb. All these guys are talented in their own right, but they are not number one receivers at this time. The Texans made a good move to quickly remedy the Hopkins transaction. They weren’t going to find anyone on Hopkins’ level to replace him; the next best thing was to find some lesser players and group them as complimentary pieces who may help spread the ball a little bit more. Eventually, the team will have to find a younger wideout to develop and really take over that number one spot. But right now, they have a solid veteran group that could help this team win.
