It’s 2019 and Dennis Rodman is still stirring shit up and we should all be appreciative. The legendary power forward went on ESPN’s First Take to promote a 30 for 30 centering on him in November. While on the show he gave a variety of opinions, including the NBA salaries in his era compared to today, freedom of expression in this era and the age-old “Michael Jordan is better than Lebron” speech. In relation to the latter, Rodman made sure to answer the question of how his Bulls team would fare up against the current Golden State Warriors team. Obviously, he chose his team, while laying out different matchups; but he was extra eager about the matchup between him and Draymond Green.
“I got no problem handling that Green guy,” explained Rodman. “He’ll be eating out of my hands…Keep getting your teeth straight honey and listen to your mama. This is Dr. D-Rod calling right now baby. You want some prescription, come ask me.”
Whatever that was supposed to mean.
But it was not all shade.
“He’s a great defender…but Draymond must have took a page out of my book from back in the day.”
There were more gems in this interview that Rodman dropped. One thing he pointed out was how players are more accepted to express themselves as opposed to how it was received when he was in the game.
The old school stars are always going to speak on the newer generation, but Rodman’s take provides a little more value honestly. He’s played on championship teams at the tail end of the 80’s and obviously in the middle of the 90’s, so he can attest to the difference of playing styles between the 2 eras, with a more detailed look. As far as his comments about Draymond Green, Rodman is someone that can match up well with him, mainly in the post. Green’s advantage is he can set up away from the paint at numerous times throughout the game, which can bring Rodman out of his comfort zone. However, Draymond is maybe a 4th option with Durant, Curry and Thompson on the floor; and if either of them miss that shot, it’s likely to be rebounded by Rodman anyway.
